Congressman Zeldin Calls on Albany to Enact Term Limits for Governor, Pledges to Self-Term Limit Himself Regardless

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement calling on the New York State Legislature to enact term limits of two four-year terms on the office of Governor:

“During the reign of three-term Governor Andrew Cuomo, New Yorkers witnessed firsthand the rampant abuse and corruption that is born out of a system of limitless power. There are many reforms that must be made to ensure this flagrant misconduct never terrorizes our state again and a critical component of this reform is enacting term limits.

“I have always believed that our founding fathers envisioned a system of citizen elected leaders who would bring their unique new ideas, experiences and vision to government and then move on. Now more than ever, it’s clear Albany needs reform and a key step is enacting a 2 term limit on the highest office in the state. As Governor, I would term-limit myself to 2 terms regardless of whether the state legislature takes this action.”

Congressman Lee Zeldin also launched TermLimitAlbany.com so New Yorkers can tell Albany themselves to enact term limits.

Congressman Zeldin Statement on Kathy Hochul Declaring New COVID State of Emergency

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement after Governor Kathy Hochul declared a new COVID State of Emergency in New York:

“Throughout the pandemic, New Yorkers had to limit their doctor visits and elected procedures with increased risk and harm related to major long term negative health consequences. Going backwards now to limit necessary health services will result in massive negative harm that absolutely must be avoided. New York has a major staffing shortage in the health field that Kathy Hochul greatly exacerbated with her COVID vaccine mandate, firing healthcare workers and turning heroes into zeroes. More of these ill-advised mandates from Albany is not the cure New Yorkers need.”

Congressman Zeldin Slams Kathy Hochul For Signing Redistricting Power Grab and Overriding Will of New York Voters

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement after Kathy Hochul signed Senate Bill No. 7150, which allows the Legislature to eventually take back over the redistricting process despite New York voters rejecting earlier this month a Constitutional Amendment to allow legislative majorities to redraw district lines.

“In New York, there’s definitely one thing we can’t be thankful for this year and that’s a Governor who listens to the will of the people. Despite the people of New York voting a resounding NO earlier this month on a Constitutional Amendment which would have allowed legislative majorities to redistrict, Kathy Hochul circumvented New York voters by signing into law legislation to do just that. When I’m Governor, I will respect the will of the people, which means this legislation would’ve gotten a VETO from me.”

In 2013, while serving in the New York State Senate, then-Senator Lee Zeldin voted in favor of creating an independent redistricting commission.

Congressman Zeldin Demands Kathy Hochul Veto Legislation Which Would Override Will of New York Voters

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement demanding that Kathy Hochul veto Senate Bill No. 7150, which allows the Legislature to eventually take back over the redistricting process despite New York voters rejecting earlier this month a Constitutional Amendment to allow legislative majorities to redraw district lines.

“This nation has long prided itself as a ‘government of the people, by the people, for the people’, but not if the New York State Legislature had its way. Despite the people of New York voting a resounding NO earlier this month on a Constitutional Amendment which would have allowed legislative majorities to redistrict, the State Legislature is attempting to circumvent the will of the people by jamming through a law to do just that. Having passed both the Assembly and Senate, this legislation now sits on the Governor’s desk. Kathy Hochul must fervently veto this legislation and safeguard the will of New York voters.

In 2013, while serving in the New York State Senate, then-Senator Lee Zeldin voted in favor of creating an independent redistricting commission.

Congressman Zeldin Hits Manhattan, Westchester and Suffolk Counties in Weekend Campaign Stops

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, met with leaders of the Italian-American community in Little Italy to discuss his strong opposition to renaming Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day, his opposition to taking down statues of Christopher Columbus, and his support for protecting Italian-American heritage in New York. This past Columbus Day, Kathy Hochul signed a proclamation declaring Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples’ Day in New York for the first time ever. Then, she blindsided the Italian-American community with her firing of the state’s liaison.

In the afternoon, Congressman Zeldin headed to Yonkers in Westchester County for a campaign meeting.

On Sunday, November 21, 2021, Congressman Zeldin stopped by a food-drive organized by the North Fork Patriots in Riverhead in Suffolk County.

Congressman Zeldin then traveled back to Manhattan for several meetings and events, including a fundraiser in support of his campaign.

Congressman Zeldin Statement on NYS Assembly Report Detailing Cuomo Misconduct

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement after the New York State Assembly released their report detailing rampant misconduct by Andrew Cuomo during his time in office:

“The release of the Assembly’s report has once again proved what we knew all along. Whether it was his fatally flawed nursing home order and coverup, his $5.1 million self-congratulatory book deal and his sexual harassment, abuse and retaliation, Andrew Cuomo disgraced the State of New York and must be held accountable.

“Despite having this overwhelming evidence to substantiate this misconduct, the New York State Legislature did nothing, letting him off scot-free to resign on his own terms and continue his attacks and efforts to undermine his victims.

“Unfortunately for New Yorkers, we’re now left with Cuomo’s Lieutenant who was either complicit or out to lunch from scandal to scandal, empowering this disgusting behavior while Andrew Cuomo cultivated a toxic and deadly culture, leaving a trail of victims in its wake. Kathy Hochul was silent scandal after scandal, from fatal nursing home policies and coverups to rampant harassment, intimidation, bullying and abuse. In November of 2022, New Yorkers must rid our state of the Cuomo-Hochul legacy, end the one-party rule that has enabled this disgusting behavior and take back control of our state.”

 mansion.”

Congressman Lee Zeldin Statement On Lt. Gov. Benjamin Associate Indicted on Campaign Finance Fraud

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement after Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin’s associate was indicted for Campaign Finance Fraud:

“Let’s see what complicit Kathy has to say about this one. Everything she hooks herself onto in Albany is scandal scarred and she just smiles through it all with either total silence or useless, minimal commentary. Let’s face it…it’s her most prized personal political calculation for success in this rise to the Governor’s mansion.”

Congressman Lee Zeldin Continues to Stand with New York’s First Responders

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, once again voiced his support for New York City’s police officers, firefighters and other first responders who have lost their paycheck thanks to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s vaccine mandate for city workers, which doesn’t provide an alternative testing option:

“Firehouses across the city are shutting their doors, law enforcement officers are being pulled off the streets, and Bill de Blasio isn’t backing down from his my way or the highway mandate. These brave first responders were the first ones to heed the call during the pandemic, and now de Blasio is turning these heroes into zeroes. The exodus of these brave first responders will lead to longer wait times and increased crime on our streets. Everyday New Yorkers will be the ones who ultimately pay the price.”
