Congressman Lee Zeldin Raises Over $11.6 Million Since Announcing for Governor, from Nearly 47,000 Donations

NEW YORK – Since announcing his bid for Governor of New York on April 8, 2021, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, has raked in $11.6 million in receipts.

This filing, Congressman Zeldin reported over $3.2 million in receipts from more than 12,000 donations, 92% of which are $100 or less, and currently has over $3.1 million cash on hand. Since announcing his candidacy for Governor, Congressman Zeldin has received nearly 47,000 donations.

Since the beginning of February 2022, Congressman Zeldin has spent nearly $5 million on television and radio ads throughout New York and just announced earlier today that he is currently polling at 41% in the upcoming June 28th Republican Party primary for Governor, which is 23 points ahead of his next closest competitor.

Congressman Zeldin said, “New Yorkers are sick and tired of the attacks on their wallets, safety, freedoms and kids’ education, and they’re putting their money where their mouth is. The unparalleled outpouring of grassroots support from every corner of our state has only grown stronger.

“New Yorkers of all stripes are hitting their breaking point, and this is last stand time. In November, New Yorkers are going to restore a balance of power to Albany. They’re going to usher in a new generation of leadership, and Save Our State.”

Congressman Zeldin Maintains Massive Lead Over GOP Primary Field

NEW YORK – A new statewide survey of 600 likely Republican primary election voters in New York, taken May 24-25, 2022, found Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, holding a massive 23 point lead over the field.

“Getting into this race over a year ago, we’ve brought our mission to Save Our State to every corner of New York over and over again, earning the support of everyday New Yorkers who strongly agree that Kathy Hochul has got to go, and balance must be restored to our state capital,” said Congressman Zeldin. “It is physically impossible to outwork me. We have the issues on our side, and clearly the greatest amount of grassroots support. After 7 consecutive wins in purple districts, taking out two incumbent Democrats along the way, we are looking forward to keeping the win streak alive with a big win in the Republican Party primary June 28th, and then again in the general election November 8th, when we send Kathy Hochul packing. To secure our streets, make life more affordable, and save New York, winning is the only option.”

Since 2010, Congressman Zeldin has won 7 consecutive races in purple New York City suburban districts, including a primary by over 20 points despite over $4 million spent against him. He flipped a State Senate seat in 2010 that was held by a Democrat incumbent whose family held office in that area for thirty years and then flipped a House seat in 2014 that was held by a Democrat for the prior twelve years.

McLaughlin & Associates, which has always served as Congressman Zeldin’s pollster with precise, consistent accuracy for every one of his campaigns, completed the statewide survey of 600 likely Republican primary election voters in New York State.

McLaughlin & Associates has decades of experience polling in New York and, in 2021, did the polling for the upset victories of Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and the Conservative Party victories to defeat statewide Propositions 1, 3 and 4.

Topline Survey Results:

  • On a head-to-head ballot, Zeldin currently leads by 23-points to his next closest potential competitor:
    • Zeldin 41%
    • Giuliani 18%
    • Astorino 17%
    • Wilson 13%
    • 12% undecided
  • Hochul has an 84% disapproval rating
  • Economic issues are the primary concern at 38% of the total open-ended issue question: taxes 16%, the economy in general 12%, inflation at 8%, cost of living at 2%.
  • Crime and safety issues account for 33% of the total as a grouping. “Crime” is the #1 single, stand-alone issue at 19%.

This survey conducted by McLaughlin & Associates was among registered Republicans who are likely primary voters. All respondents have a history of having voted in Republican primary elections, or who are newly registered and self-identify as planning to vote in the June 28th Republican primary election.

This in contrast to other publicly released polls that were based on a less reliable online-panel. Those polls do not correctly screen for likely voters, nor can they verify a history of having voted in past Republican primary elections.

Methodology: This New York Statewide survey of Likely Republican Primary election voters was conducted among 600 likely primary voters between May 24 – May 25, 2022.

A multi-modal approach was employed via live telephone calls and self-administered text messages. The live telephone interviews were conducted by professional interviewers with respondents contacted by both landline phone and cell phone. The text message respondents were sent a personalized invitation to complete the survey on a secure online platform. Interview selection was random and interviews were stratified by county, region, race/ethnicity, age, and gender, to correlate with actual voter turnout from previous even-year Republican primary elections.

Thirty-three percent (33%) of interviews were completed on traditional landlines, 33% were conducted on cell-phones and 33% of interviews were conducted via text message, which linked to a secure online platform.

These samples were then combined and structured to correlate with actual voter turnout in a Republican primary election. This poll of 600 likely Republican primary election voters in New York State has an accuracy of +/- 4.0% at a 95% confidence interval.

Congressman Zeldin Statement on NYC Moving Forward with Borough-Based “Mega-Jail” Plans

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, issued the following statement calling for New York City to reverse its decision to build the borough-based “Mega-Jail” system:

“Just when New Yorkers thought they were finished with the worst Mayor in America, Bill de Blasio, his radical far-left policies keep knocking. De Blasio’s plans to inject ‘mega jails’ throughout New York City has continued to move forward, despite countless objections by our neighbors in some of New York’s most vulnerable communities. New York City’s ‘solution’ to the crime epidemic is to close down Rikers Island and put criminals at the heart of our communities, not law-abiding New Yorkers.

“This plan has been incredibly flawed and completely backwards from its inception. The overall goal of this plan is to reduce the prison population by half, and yet we are seeing increased rates of crime due to far-left pro-criminal policies being implemented and defended in New York, by the Governor, state legislature, and one-party Democrat rule.

“It’s common sense. Don’t shut down Rikers Island. Don’t force these ‘mega jails’ on our communities. Don’t put criminals before law-abiding citizens. New York City should put a stop to construction of these facilities that will weaken the foundations of our communities.”

Congressman Zeldin Statement on Antisemitic CUNY Commencement Speaker

Pledges to Withhold CUNY Funding as Governor Unless Meaningful Actions are Taken to Tackle Rising Antisemitism on Campus

NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, is weighing in on the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law allowing a known antisemite to deliver an antisemitic commencement address. As Governor, Congressman Zeldin is pledging to withhold funding from CUNY if they don’t take immediate, effective action to tackle the rising antisemitism on campus:

“This is so wrong. As Governor of New York, I will withhold funding to CUNY unless it reverses course, takes meaningful action, and stops the rapid expansion of antisemitism within its culture, policies, and ranks. CUNY should be fostering an employment and learning environment that once again protects Jewish students and faculty. CUNY should have never allowed this known antisemite to spew her antisemitism in a commencement address.”

There are many examples of antisemitism on the rise at CUNY. For example, last summer, an adjunct professor concluded a speech off campus by stating “With the help of Allah they [the Muslims] will erase this filth called Israel.” Also last year, the Professional Staff Congress (PSC-CUNY) passed a resolution advancing the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Congressman Zeldin Joins Buffalo Community at Tops to Pay Respects Following This Weekend’s Tragedy

Download photos here.

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, joined community leaders at Tops on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo to pay his respects to the victims and speak with the community affected by this past weekend’s tragedy in Buffalo.

Following the attack, Congressman Zeldin issued the following statement: “A simple Saturday afternoon at the local supermarket should never end in violence, tragedy and death. Across our state, streets, subways, businesses and homes have been turned over to criminals. The Buffalo tragedy is a brutal reminder of the raw, violent hate on the rise in NY. Asian Americans have been killed in NYC with knives, hands, and hammers. Three Jews were assaulted this past week in Brooklyn. Sikhs have been beaten up. None of it is welcome here, in any form.”

Yesterday, Congressman Zeldin called on Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature to bring back the death penalty to New York and make crimes, such as killing police officers and first responders, fatal hate crimes like this weekend’s attack in Buffalo, homicides with multiple victims, and many other crimes, eligible for the death penalty.

Previously, Congressman Zeldin put forth his Secure Our Streets plan for New York.

Congressman Zeldin Slams Parole Board for Releasing Violent Repeat Rapist and Murderer William Maxwell

NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, slammed the New York State Board of Parole for releasing William Maxwell, a recidivist, violent sex offender, murderer and felon.

“Once again, the New York State Parole Board has failed New Yorkers,” said Congressman Lee Zeldin. “The release of William Maxwell is not in the best interest of New Yorkers, Maxwell’s victims’, their families, the safety of the community and even William Maxwell himself. In fact, he was already released in 1987 and committed more heinous crimes not even a year later. William Maxwell is a monster who deserves and was rightly sentenced to a life behind bars, and the Board of Parole’s eagerness to let him off the hook is absolutely sickening.”

As part of Congressman Zeldin’s Secure Our Streets plan, Congressman Zeldin has proposed:

  • Overhauling the Board of Parole/Parole Hearing process
  • Requiring unanimous decisions by Parole Commissioners when granting parole
  • Replacing members of the Parole Board who have expressed poor judgment
  • Requiring consideration of 3rd party testimony from victims and victims’ families
  • Enhancing notification of Parole Board hearings
  • Establishing a process for victims and victims’ families to appeal parole decisions
  • Requiring Composition of Board of Parole Commissioners to be fairly structured, including victims advocates and law enforcement

About Lee Zeldin

Lee Zeldin was born and raised on Long Island. He grew up in Suffolk County and graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, where his identical twin daughters attend school today. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany and then his law degree from Albany Law School, becoming New York’s youngest attorney at the time at the age of 23.

Lee spent four years on Active Duty with the U.S. Army after completing ROTC and served in different capacities, including as a Military Intelligence Officer, Prosecutor, and Military Magistrate. In the summer of 2006, while assigned to the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division, Lee deployed to Iraq with an infantry battalion of fellow paratroopers in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2007, Lee returned to Suffolk County with his family. It was at this time that Lee transitioned from Active Duty to the Army Reserve, where he currently serves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In 2008, Lee established a successful law practice in Smithtown, NY. Elected to the New York State Senate two years later, in 2010, Lee’s been working hard every day since to keep the promises he made to the hard-working families he represents.

In the State Senate, Lee:

  • Led the successful effort to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for 80 percent of employers, a job killing tax that was hurting small businesses.

  • Cosponsored the nation’s strongest property tax cap, which became law.

  • Reduced middle-income tax rates in New York to the lowest level in 60 years.

  • Secured the repeal of the Saltwater Fishing License Fee.

  • Created the PFC Joseph Dwyer Veteran Peer Support Program to help our returning veterans cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

  • Authored the law to protect our fallen veterans and their families from protests at military burials.

Lee was then elected to the United States Congress in 2014, representing New York’s First Congressional District, and has now won seven consecutive races since 2010 in purple NYC suburban districts, unseating two Democrat incumbents along the way. In Congress, Lee quickly became a leading voice in America on top local, domestic and foreign policy issues:

  • Combating and defeating MS-13 on Long Island, leading the charge in New York and nationally against cashless bail, opposing all efforts to defund, dismantle or abolish police, and providing law enforcement the resources they need to fight gang violence and other crimes in our communities, including bulletproof vests.

“A casual Saturday supermarket trip to Tops on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo should NEVER end anything like this. Families, a community, and the rest of our state are all deeply shocked, heartbroken, and prayerful, learning of this devastating news. Congressman Zeldin Calls on Hochul and NYPA to Take Down Taxpayer Funded Campaign Ads

NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, slammed Kathy Hochul for continuing to run taxpayer funded campaign radio ads through the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and demands she and NYPA take them down:

“Once again, Kathy Hochul is taking taxpayers for a ride, this time running campaign ads using the shill of the New York Power Authority. Despite being called out for her brazen wrong doing, Kathy Hochul is keeping the ads on air. Hochul and the New York Power Authority must immediately take down these taxpayer funded ads. Hochul can’t plead ignorance anymore. Whether it’s pleading ignorance on the rampant abuse and harassment that plagued the Cuomo-Hochul Administration, hand picking a scandal scarred lieutenant governor who was later arrested for bribery, or so much more, Kathy Hochul is always complicit or out to lunch.”
