Congressman Lee Zeldin Statement on Extension of Eviction Moratorium

NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement after New York extended its eviction moratorium until January 15, 2022:

“When COVID emerged, New York halted evictions for tenants who may have lost their jobs or source of income due to the outbreak, but over the last year and a half the system has been badly abused and politicians have continued to extend the halt on evictions with no way for many small business owners to pay their own bills. Now, Albany has extended the eviction moratorium without solving ANY of these underlying problems at hand.

“Additionally, process wise, the continued 3 persons in a room approach to governance that Governor Hochul is proudly continuing from her predecessor, cutting out nearly every other member of the 213 person State Legislature, is as dysfunctional as it gets.

“There have been federally allocated funds that Albany still has not distributed to owners and renters. Albany needs to provide answers about the status of distributing billions received in federal funds.

“We cannot allow a program like this to continue as designed. One-party rule cannot simply just extend programs that are harming New Yorkers. This could have been a great opportunity for Kathy Hochul to lead New York in the right direction, but instead, she chose to follow the far left of her party right off a cliff.”

Congressman Lee Zeldin Continues Call for Hochul to Fire NYS Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, Launches FireHowardZucker.com

NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement after the launch of FireHowardZucker.com, continuing his calls for Governor Kathy Hochul to fire New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker:

“After Andrew Cuomo, no one is more responsible for New York’s deadly nursing home order and coverup than New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, yet Governor Hochul is still keeping him around. Zucker needs to also be held responsible for the preferential COVID testing given to the Cuomo-Hochul administration’s family and friends, which were performed at private residences, conducted by state Health Department officials, and then moved to the front of the line at the state laboratory. Anyone who enabled Cuomo’s wrongdoings should be fired immediately. As for Kathy Hochul, she still needs to come clean to New Yorkers whether she was complicit or out to lunch, but, regardless, Howard Zucker should’ve been out the door on day 1.”

Sullivan County Conservative Party Chairman Edward A. Magilton said, “For far too long, Albany has ignored the priorities of everyday New Yorkers in pursuit of their own radical political agenda. Backing criminals, shutting down our economy, and increasing sky-high taxes come at a steep price for New Yorkers. With a platform of public safety, low taxes, and kick-starting our economy, Lee Zeldin will be a governor who prioritizes the concerns of regular New Yorkers over himself, a stark contrast from those who have reigned in Albany for far too long.”

To date, the Suffolk, Onondaga, Orange, Rockland, Westchester, Erie, New York, Madison, Orleans, Wayne, Nassau, Ontario, Richmond, Bronx, Broome, Genesee, Albany, Kings, Greene, Ulster, Saratoga, Schenectady, Queens, Monroe, Oneida, St. Lawrence, Dutchess, Washington, Niagara, Chemung, Cayuga, Oswego, Herkimer and Sullivan County Conservative Parties have endorsed Congressman Lee Zeldin, representing 85% of the New York State Conservative Party’s weighted gubernatorial vote. 50% is needed to be the official designee of the Conservative Party for Governor.

Congressman Zeldin has been declared the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties.

Lee Zeldin was born and raised on Long Island. He grew up in Suffolk County and graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, where his identical twin daughters attend school today. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany and then his law degree from Albany Law School, becoming New York’s youngest attorney at the time at the age of 23.
Lee spent four years on Active Duty with the U.S. Army after completing ROTC and served in different capacities, including as a Military Intelligence Officer, Prosecutor, and Military Magistrate. In the summer of 2006, while assigned to the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division, Lee deployed to Iraq with an infantry battalion of fellow paratroopers in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2007, Lee returned to Suffolk County with his family. It was at this time that Lee transitioned from Active Duty to the Army Reserve, where he currently serves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
In 2008, Lee established a successful law practice in Smithtown, NY. Elected to the New York State Senate two years later, in 2010, Lee’s been working hard every day since to keep the promises he made to the hard-working families he represents.
In the State Senate, Lee successfully fought to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for 80 percent of employers, a job killing tax that was hurting small businesses. Lee led the successful efforts to repeal the Saltwater Fishing License Fee and create the PFC Joseph Dwyer Program, a statewide program in New York to help our returning veterans cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Lee also wrote the law that protects our fallen veterans and their families from protests at military burials.
Lee was then elected to the United States Congress in 2014, representing New York’s First Congressional District, and quickly became a leading voice in America on top local, domestic and foreign policy issues.
Lee has secured many key victories for Long Island, which have included among many other successes:
Saving Plum Island, by securing the repeal of a 2008 federal law requiring the island to be sold off to the highest bidder. He also secured funding to repair the historic Plum Island Lighthouse and funding necessary to remediate environmental concerns on the island.
  • Delivering a $2 billion Electron Ion Collider project to Brookhaven National Lab.
  • Securing $8.3 billion in much needed funding to support treatment, enforcement, and prevention for those affected by the heroin and opioid abuse crisis.
  • Working with the Army Corps of Engineers to protect our coastlines, advancing the ambitious $1.5 billion Fire Island to Montauk Point project, in addition to several other vital projects on the north and south shores of Long Island.
  • Co-Chairing the Long Island Sound Caucus and delivering vast quantities of funding for the Long Island Sound Program, National Estuary Program and SeaGrant.

  • Successfully resolving over 17,000 constituent cases in favor of NY-1 residents.
One of only two Jewish Republicans in Congress, Lee co-chairs the House Republican Israel Caucus, and serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Financial Services Committee. He also serves on four House Subcommittees.
Lee and his wife, Diana, reside in Shirley with their twin fourteen-year old daughters, Mikayla and Arianna.

Congressman Lee Zeldin Statement on Kathy Hochul’s Pick for Lieutenant Governor

NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement on reports Governor Kathy Hochul will select State Senator Brian Benjamin as her Lieutenant Governor:

“Wildly out of touch move by Kathy Hochul that while New Yorkers are hitting their breaking points due to Albany’s constant attacks on their wallets, safety and freedoms, Andrew Cuomo’s former Lieutenant picks a Lieutenant of her own – State Senator Brian Benjamin – who championed cashless bail, fought to defund the police, ushered into law the highest taxes in the country for many New Yorkers and so many other disastrous policies! Hochul should have instead been selecting a Lieutenant Governor committed to supporting law enforcement more, not less, making life in New York more affordable, not less, protecting individuals freedoms more, not less, and advancing other common sense positions that this pick is all wrong on.”

Congressman Lee Zeldin Statement on Andrew Cuomo’s Last Day in Office

NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), who has been named the presumptive nominee for Governor of New York by both the New York Republican and Conservative Parties, issued the following statement on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s last day in office:

“Andrew Cuomo finished his time in office the same way he reigned over New York for 10 long years – blaming his victims, attacking his accusers, undermining any and all investigations into his wrongdoing and skirting any shred of responsibility for any of his actions. From his deadly nursing home order and coverup, to his $5.1 million self-congratulatory book deal and serial harassment and abuse of others, he’s been unfit to continue serving for a long time.

“Unfortunately, for New Yorkers, Cuomo’s Lieutenant, who has been silent scandal after scandal, takes the reins tomorrow morning, but not for long.

“One-party rule in New York has led to rampant crime, a skyrocketing cost of living and a deteriorating quality of life that has led so many New Yorkers to flee the communities they love. New Yorkers are looking at other states and wondering why we can’t have that here in New York. The answer is that we can, but not if we continue down this path of disastrous one-party rule.

“Every New Yorker deserves better, and, in November of 2022, we must rid New York of the Cuomo-Hochul administration and its disgraceful legacy. We need new leadership in New York to end the attacks on our freedoms, our wallets and our safety, and Save Our State.”
