About Lee Zeldin

Lee Zeldin was born and raised on Long Island. He grew up in Suffolk County and graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, where his identical twin daughters attend school today. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany and then his law degree from Albany Law School, becoming New York’s youngest attorney at the time at the age of 23.

Lee spent four years on Active Duty with the U.S. Army after completing ROTC and served in different capacities, including as a Military Intelligence Officer, Prosecutor, and Military Magistrate. In the summer of 2006, while assigned to the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division, Lee deployed to Iraq with an infantry battalion of fellow paratroopers in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2007, Lee returned to Suffolk County with his family. It was at this time that Lee transitioned from Active Duty to the Army Reserve, where he currently serves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In 2008, Lee established a successful law practice in Smithtown, NY. Elected to the New York State Senate two years later, in 2010, Lee’s been working hard every day since to keep the promises he made to the hard-working families he represents.

In the State Senate, Lee:

  • Led the successful effort to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for 80 percent of employers, a job killing tax that was hurting small businesses.

  • Cosponsored the nation’s strongest property tax cap, which became law.

  • Reduced middle-income tax rates in New York to the lowest level in 60 years.

  • Created the PFC Joseph Dwyer Veteran Peer Support Program to help our returning veterans cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

  • Authored the law to protect our fallen veterans and their families from protests at military burials.

Lee was then elected to the United States Congress in 2014, representing New York’s First Congressional District, and has now won seven consecutive races since 2010 in purple NYC suburban districts, unseating two Democrat incumbents along the way. In Congress, Lee quickly became a leading voice in America on top local, domestic and foreign policy issues:

  • Combating and defeating MS-13 on Long Island, leading the charge in New York and nationally against cashless bail, opposing all efforts to defund, dismantle or abolish police, and providing law enforcement the resources they need to fight gang violence and other crimes in our communities, including bulletproof vests.

  • Securing the repeal of many harmful, job killing regulations, with the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act, and many other initiatives, to improve our business climate and grow our economy.

  • Leading the charge to end all COVID mandates.

  • Saving Plum Island, by securing the repeal of a 2008 federal law requiring the island to be sold off to the highest bidder.

  • Delivering a $1.5 billion boost in border security resources, helping to choke off the flow of illegal migration across our borders.

  • Introducing and passing into law his Adult Day Health Care legislation for disabled veterans and opening a new health care clinic for East End veterans.

  • Delivering the Electron Ion Collider “discovery machine” to Brookhaven National Lab that will enable advancements in national security, medical and cancer research, astrophysics, and more and create an extensive number of jobs.

  • Advancing his law enforcement bill of rights, which would help ensure that our great law enforcement officers and the people they serve are protected.

  • Championing the expansion of the Dwyer Program nationally, to help all of our nation’s veterans access the resources they need.

  • Securing much needed support of treatment, enforcement, and prevention for those affected by the heroin and opioid abuse crisis.

  • Co-Chairing the Long Island Sound Caucus and advancing top priorities for the Long Island Sound Program, National Estuary Program and SeaGrant.

  • Co-chairing, as one of only two Jewish Republicans in Congress, the House Republican Israel Caucus, and serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Financial Services Committee, as well as four House Subcommittees.

Congressman Lee Zeldin Statement After Campaign Sign Vandalized with Swastika, Death Threats

NEW YORK – This weekend, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor who would become the first Jewish Republican Governor of New York, released the following statement after a Zeldin for New York campaign sign was vandalized with antisemitic death threats in Huntington, New York.

A swastika was spray painted next to the numbers 187, which, as the California penal code for murder, has been universally adopted as a common death threat.

“In the United States, we settle our scores at the ballot box, and this type of raw hate must never have any home on Long Island or anywhere else in our state and country,” said Zeldin for New York spokesperson Katie Vincentz. “Congressman Zeldin is thankful for the Suffolk County Police Department as they work to identify the perpetrators. Congressman Zeldin is more focused now than ever on Saving Our State.”

Congressman Zeldin Statement on Supreme Court Decision

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, issued the following statement:

“Today is a victory for life, for family, for the constitution, and for federalism. When my daughters, Mikayla and Arianna, were born 14.5 weeks early, I had the opportunity to witness life in the second trimester and it was absolutely beautiful. In a state that has legalized late term partial birth abortion and non-doctors performing abortion, in a state that refuses to advance informed consent and parental consent, and where not enough is being done to promote adoption and support mothers, today is yet another reminder that New York clearly needs to do a much better job to promote, respect and defend life.”

Nassau County Probation Officers Association Endorses Congressman Lee Zeldin for Governor

NEW YORK – The Nassau County Probation Officers Association just endorsed the candidacy of Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor.

“As a New York Senator and United States Congressman, you stood in strong support of the men and women of law enforcement,” said Joseph DiMartino, President of the Nassau County Probation Officers Association. “When it appeared to be popular amongst politicians to abandon public safety in favor of political points, you doubled down in your support of the members of law enforcement and the great work they do every single day. You had the courage to stand up against anti-police radicals that called for the defunding of police, knowing such dangerous rhetoric would come at a cost of public safety. We believe you are the only candidate that will finally end the disastrous bail reform responsible for protecting criminals and abandoning victims.”

This is Congressman Zeldin’s 16th labor endorsement of the 2022 election cycle. He has also been endorsed by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 138, Laborers Local 1298, Transport Workers Union Local 252, Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association (PBA), Suffolk County Superior Officers Association, Suffolk County Detectives Association, Suffolk County Probation Officers Association, Suffolk County Detective Investigators PBA, Suffolk County Police Conference, Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs Police Benevolent Association, NYC Fire Marshals Benevolent Association, Amityville Village PBA, Northport Village PBA, Lynbrook PBA and IBEW Local 2230.

Congressman Zeldin Statement on Supreme Court Striking Down New York’s Concealed Carry Law

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor issued the following statement on the United States Supreme Court striking down New York State’s Concealed Carry Law:

“Today, the United States Supreme Court ruled in defense of the Constitutional rights of law-abiding New Yorkers who have been under attack for far too long. I was proud to sign on to the amicus brief in support of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association’s case and in defense of these law abiding New Yorkers. While Kathy Hochul, the former A-rated NRA Member of Congress, becomes more a walking identity crisis each passing day, she better not make her next move on this yet another assault on law-abiding New Yorkers. If Hochul does, it will make it even more likely that I get elected to her position in November, because New Yorkers need and deserve a Governor who unapologetically defends freedoms, liberty and the Constitution.”

Congressman Zeldin is endorsed by Tom King, President of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, in the upcoming Tuesday, June 28th Republican primary.

  • Secured the repeal of the Saltwater Fishing License Fee.

  • Leading the effort against the fatally flawed Iran Nuclear Deal.

New York Sportfishing Federation, New York Fishing Tackle & Trade Association, North Fork Captains Association, and Montauk Boatman & Captain Association Endorse Congressman Lee Zeldin for Governor

NEW YORK – The New York Sportfishing Federation, New York Fishing Tackle & Trade Association, North Fork Captains Association, and Montauk Boatman & Captain Association just endorsed the candidacy of Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor.

“Congressman Zeldin played an integral part in repealing an unjust and poorly designed saltwater license in 2011, spearheaded the project to dredge a dangerous, almost unnavigable Moriches Inlet, aided in the placement of the most qualified candidates in seats on fisheries management councils and commissions, and has always been a strong advocate for New York’s fair share of the coast wide quotas. He has been a powerful voice for our marine district for years. We strongly believe Congressman Zeldin has the unique ability to combine commerce and conservation and will fight tirelessly for the rights of our marine community. Therefore, we fully support Congressman Zeldin for Governor of New York,” said Capt. Joe Paradiso, President of the New York Sportfishing Federation and North Fork Captains Association and John Mantione, of the New York Fishing Tackle & Trade Association.

Congressman Zeldin Holds 21 Point Lead Over GOP Primary Field in New Poll with 1 Week to Go

NEW YORK – A new statewide survey of 600 likely Republican primary election voters in New York, taken between June 16 and June 19, 2022, found Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party designee for Governor, holding a massive 21 point lead over the field.

“New Yorkers from every corner of our state are sick and tired of the attacks on our wallets, safety, freedom and kids’ education, and they know it’s going to take a new generation of leadership to Save Our State,” said Congressman Zeldin. “In poll after poll, New Yorkers have made it clear that they’re all in on our rescue mission to restore New York to glory and that losing is not an option. We have the issues on our side, we have the grassroots support on our side, and on June 28th Republican primary voters are going to send a message loud and clear that we have New Yorkers on our side.”

Since 2010, Congressman Zeldin has won 7 consecutive races in purple New York City suburban districts, including a primary by over 20 points despite over $4 million spent against him. He flipped a State Senate seat in 2010 that was held by a Democrat incumbent whose family held office in that area for thirty years and then flipped a House seat in 2014 that was held by a Democrat for the prior twelve years.

McLaughlin & Associates, which has always served as Congressman Zeldin’s pollster with precise, consistent accuracy for every one of his campaigns, completed the statewide survey of 600 likely Republican primary election voters in New York State.

McLaughlin & Associates has decades of experience polling in New York and, in 2021, did the polling for the upset victories of Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and the Conservative Party victories to defeat statewide Propositions 1, 3 and 4.

Topline Survey Results:

  • On a head-to-head ballot, Zeldin currently leads by 21-points to his next closest potential competitor:
    • Zeldin 38%
    • Giuliani 17%
    • Astorino 17%
    • Wilson 16%
    • 12% undecided

This survey conducted by McLaughlin & Associates was among registered Republicans who are likely primary voters. All respondents have a history of having voted in Republican primary elections, or who are newly registered and self-identify as planning to vote in the June 28th Republican primary election.

This is in contrast to other publicly released polls that were based on a less reliable online-panel. Those polls do not correctly screen for likely voters, nor can they verify a history of having voted in past Republican primary elections.

Methodology: This New York Statewide survey of Likely Republican Primary election voters was conducted among 600 likely primary voters between June 16 and June 19, 2022.

A multi-modal approach was employed via live telephone calls and self-administered text messages. The live telephone interviews were conducted by professional interviewers with respondents contacted by both landline phone and cell phone. The text message respondents were sent a personalized invitation to complete the survey on a secure online platform. Interview selection was random and interviews were stratified by county, region, race/ethnicity, age, and gender, to correlate with actual voter turnout from previous even-year Republican primary elections.

Thirty-three percent (33%) of interviews were completed on traditional landlines, 33% were conducted on cell-phones and 33% of interviews were conducted via text message, which linked to a secure online platform.

These samples were then combined and structured to correlate with actual voter turnout in a Republican primary election. This poll of 600 likely Republican primary election voters in New York State has an accuracy of +/- 4.0% at a 95% confidence interval.
