About Lee Zeldin

Lee Zeldin was born and raised on Long Island. He grew up in Suffolk County and graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, where his identical twin daughters attend school today. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany and then his law degree from Albany Law School, becoming New York’s youngest attorney at the time at the age of 23.

Lee spent four years on Active Duty with the U.S. Army after completing ROTC and served in different capacities, including as a Military Intelligence Officer, Prosecutor, and Military Magistrate. NEW YORK – Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party Nominee for Governor, blasted Kathy Hochul and Bill Clinton for joking and laughing about skyrocketing subway crime in New York City.

“Bill Clinton and Kathy Hochul laughing and joking about recent subway crimes tells you everything you need to know about how little they care about your life and safety,” said Congressman Zeldin. “You know who’s not laughing? The 9 people who died on the subway this year, the 11-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted on the subway this week or the 78-year-old who was beaten by a man with 25 prior arrests in the middle of the afternoon. Clinton and Hochul think that New Yorkers’ lives and safety are a joke, and concerns about safety are a ‘conspiracy’. We all deserve better.” 

After increasing 41% last month, subway crime has continued to increase this month with a 28% rise year over year.

About Lee Zeldin

Lee Zeldin was born and raised on Long Island. He grew up in Suffolk County and graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, where his identical twin daughters attend school today. NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party Nominee for Governor, was endorsed by the New York City (NYC) Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association.

The NYC Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association is the second largest law enforcement union in NYC. It’s the most diverse uniformed union in NYC with 85% of its members being black and hispanic and nearly 50% of its members are female.

Since the April 1 implementation of the HALT Act, violent attacks on correction officers, other prison staff, and inmates have skyrocketed across New York. Congressman Zeldin, who has long called for the repeal of the HALT Act, previously announced he would declare a state of emergency on crime on Day 1 and would use that authority to suspend the HALT Act.

About Lee Zeldin

Lee Zeldin was born and raised on Long Island. He grew up in Suffolk County and graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, where his identical twin daughters attend school today. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany and then his law degree from Albany Law School, becoming New York’s youngest attorney at the time at the age of 23.

Lee spent four years on Active Duty with the U.S. Army after completing ROTC and served in different capacities, including as a Military Intelligence Officer, Prosecutor, and Military Magistrate. In the summer of 2006, while assigned to the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division, Lee deployed to Iraq with an infantry battalion of fellow paratroopers in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2007, Lee returned to Suffolk County with his family. It was at this time that Lee transitioned from Active Duty to the Army Reserve, where he currently serves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In 2008, Lee established a successful law practice in Smithtown, NY. Elected to the New York State Senate two years later, in 2010, Lee’s been working hard every day since to keep the promises he made to the hard-working families he represents.

In the State Senate, Lee:

• Led the successful effort to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for 80 percent of employers, a job killing tax that was hurting small businesses. 

• Cosponsored the nation’s strongest property tax cap, which became law.

• Reduced middle-income tax rates in New York to the lowest level in 60 years.

• Secured the repeal of the Saltwater Fishing License Fee.
