Congressman Zeldin Fact Sheet

MYTH

Voted for every Cuomo budget

FACT

There was never a vote on a “Cuomo budget”. That’s not even how the process works. The State Assembly and State Senate vote on their own budget proposals changing what the Governor had proposed and then there is a 3-way negotiation that takes place to finalize an agreement. The final negotiated budgets from 2011-2014 included key conservative wins and were fiscally responsible, cut spending, reduced taxes, and empowered the private sector to create jobs. That’s why, from 2011 to 2013, EVERY Republican voted YES, and in 2014 only 1 Republican opposed a part of the budget. In fact, many Democrats throughout these years voted AGAINST these budgets because they said it was too conservative.

MYTH

Voted with Cuomo in Albany more than he voted with Trump in Congress

FACT

The fictitious source for this, “independent analysis”, tells you everything you need to know about this dishonest and desperate mudslinging. There’s no legitimate citation for this because it’s so false that it had to be made up.

MYTH

Voted to fully fund the SAFE Act

FACT

The SAFE Act was never contained in any State Budget that Congressman Zeldin supported. Every step of the way, Congressman Zeldin has consistently remained a staunch opponent of the unconstitutional SAFE Act, cosponsored the bill to repeal it, spoke at Pro 2A rallies, and, as Governor, would continue to advocate for repeal. MYTH

Voted to cut funding for the New York State Police in the SFY 2011-12 Enacted Budget.

FACT

That’s false. See line items from each budget from 2009-2012 below.
